APeX Access Log Data: A Powerful Tool for Understanding Clinical Work Room: Rutter Center Conference Room 1 Track: Research |
Presenter(s): Robert Thombley, Julia Adler-Milstein, Michael Wang
APeX, the UCSF Health electronic health record (EHR), is the digital fabric that connects the lives of patients, clinicians, nurses and other UCSF employees. Challenges with Understanding Cause and Effect Using EHR Data Room: Rutter Center Conference Room 2 Track: Data & Analytics |
Presenter(s): Hossein Soleimani Bajestani, Sara Murray
What is the effect of delays in radiology procedures on length of stay (LOS) in the hospital? Did the integration of patient records from outside organizations into Apex reduce number diagnostic tests ordered in the emergency department? What is the impact of delaying antibiotics on mortality in patients with sepsis? |
Chillin’ Out with Safeguarding Sensitive Data Room: Genentech Hall S202 Track: Data & Analytics |

Feeding Students with Text Messages Room: Rutter Center Conference Room 3 Track: Collaboration & Engagement |
Presenter(s): Alex Siu
According to UCOP, over 40% of students UC-wide sometimes do not get enough to eat. At the same time, an estimated 40% of food in the U.S. goes to waste. Come see how UCSF’s Student Academic Affairs and Student Information Systems built a system to connect hungry students with food that was getting thrown out. The system was designed to allow event organizers to quickly notify students via text message anytime there was leftover food. Over 50% of our student population has signed up for the notifications and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. [ops] |
