Description:

Share UCSF data responsiblyOptimal capacity management means admitting the right patients to the right beds, efficiently moving them to where they need to go, and discharging them timely. With Hospital admissions at UCSF Health now over 45,000 annually, real-time capacity management of important portal areas is critical to operations.

Today, UCSF Health capacity management statistics are sent out once daily in a supervisor activity report. However, this report is created manually and only captures a snapshot in time, not the dynamic nature of our hospital environment. In addition, multiple huddle meetings are held throughout the day to allow key operational areas to plan for admissions, prioritize patient flow decisions, and redistribute resources to manage bottlenecks, without the support of real-time data. UCSF Health is looking to improve our hospital throughput by leveraging the Capacity Management dashboard in Epic Grand Central. This dashboard provides an overall view of demand and capacity in real-time and can significantly increase our efficiency and problem solving to prioritize and redistribute resources more quickly.
